The 65 of '65
Ever since I made the claim that 1965 was the greatest year in the history of music, I’ve wanted to put a post together to back up my proclamation. Not that it needs backing up, mind you. On the Rolling Stone list of the 500 greatest songs, 1965 produced more songs than any other year. And five of the top thirteen. And the top two. After skimming over this list of the hit singles, I decided I was going to cherry pick the best and post them all with a comment or two explaining what made them so great. My list turned out to be seventy five songs long. Instead, I have whittled my list down to 65 and will post a song or two per day. From The Beatles to The Animals, Beach Boys to Righteous Brothers, Dylan to Gaye. I call my project The 65 of ’65. Put on your hats, kids, and prepare to have your minds blown (in alphabetical order).
